The name of this C-46 Commando plane is Miss Piggy and it crashed near the Hudson Bay in Churchill, Manitoba in 1979 and the wreck of the plane still sits here to day. During the cold winter months that hit the Hudson Bay, the plane gets covered in ice and the snow and some parts disappear until spring arrives.
Miss Piggy acquired her name due to the fact that she could carry so much freight and had once been known to carry a load full of pigs. But on the day that this C-46 went down near the Hudson Bay, she was carrying a skidoo and many cases of pop. All oil pressure in one of the engines was lost just after leaving Churchill and the pilots tried to return to Churchill but they hit hydro poles with one of the wings and Miss Piggy crashed on the rocks.
This is where the remains of this plane wreck have stayed since 1979 after two of the three crew members were seriously injured. It has become a tourist attraction and many people that come to Churchill, Manitoba venture here to see the left overs.
To view the plane wreck of Miss Piggy, travel along the route road along the Hudson Bay in Churchill, Manitoba until you almost reach the end and her she sits.
