Worldwide you will find many mountain ranges that are incredibly beautiful and other mountains that are not truly mountains at all but rather they are volcanoes. Volcanoes are commonly a hill or mountain built around a vent that connects with molten rock below the surface of the Earth. Whether you are exploring volcanoes at sunrise, afternoon or sunset they are one of the most magnificent geological creations of the natural world that can cause mass destruction in minutes and then begin an amazing rebirth of an entire landscape.
There are three main types of volcanoes that are grouped together by their eruptive patterns and general forms although every volcano has its own unique eruptive history.
The Scoria Cone or Cinder Cone volcano has straight sides with steep slopes and a large summit crater and is the most common type of volcano that generally produces eruptive columns a few hundred meters high. The second type is the Shield volcano which has very gentle slopes that convex upward and can spread from a few kilometers to over one hundred kilometers. The broad shape of this type of volcano results from the extrusion of fluid that spreads outward from the summit area. The third main type is the stratovolcano or composite cones which have gentle lower slopes but steep upper slopes with a small summit crater and are the most picturesque of the three volcanoes. There are several layers of plates where one plate descends beneath an adjacent plate site and starts the onset of the eruption process.
Native people often use natural features and phenomena using legends and volcanoes are one of them that has many spiritual views and myths amongst their beliefs. Volcanoes are a very powerful part of the geological world and at the same time are full of magic and mystery.
