This slab of rock which looks more like a mosaic piece of art, was deep within the heart of the earth.

Thought to have been pushed up during a collision between the African and American tectonic plates some hundred millions of years ago, this slab of ultramafic rock - peridotite, is a geologist's holy grail.

I photographed this photo with the digital SLR camera model Canon EOS-1DS, aperture of f/4.0, exposure time of 1/640 sec. on ISO 50, as always I used a original Canon Lens, the focus lenght for this picture was 47mm.
