Inside the teepees at the Siksika Pow Wow in Alberta, Canada you will find a healing centre that assists people in healing themselves with any problems that they feel they may have. There is a mental health therapist and soon there will be psychiatrists, doctors and nurses so that the members of the Siksika Nation can go through the healing process within their own community. The First Nations people are more comfortable getting medical help with trained people that speak their language and since the healing centre has started, there have been many that come to the centre on their own free will. Fetal alcohol syndrome and the effects of this are high on the list and trained personnel are there to help and answer any questions. The Siksika healing centre was started after the government approved a program that would help the community and it began by training about a hundred volunteers. There are about fourteen different communities on the Siksika nation and having trained people makes the healing centre extremely efficient. The teepees are set up for people wishing to seek help at the Siksika Pow Wow or for them to learn more about this system. The power amongst the Siksika community is incredible and continues to build year after year especially throughout Alberta, Canada.Teepee at the Siksika Pow Wow, Alberta
