The Scarlet Mormon butterfly rests peacefully on a plant and can be seen at a close range at the Butterfly Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia in Canada. Stroll through the gardens amongst hundreds of free-flying butterflies that reside within a controlled tropical environment.
The male Scarlet Mormon butterfly has a deep velvety black color with areas of scarlet between their black wing veins and scarlet circles with black markings at the wing tips. The females have the same markings and colors as the male only the scarlet circles are less and some are reduced to half circles.
The underside of the Scarlet Mormon Butterfly is far more radiant than the back side with bright red markings amongst black spots. Watch for a Scarlet Mormon Butterfly to flutter above your head to get a view of the amazing hues of this particular species of butterfly.
The Victoria Gardens has numerous types of butterflies that come from farming operations and each variety has their own incredible pattern. The diversity, size, shape and color patterns make these winged beauties a fascinating sight to see and watch as they encompass you in their world of natural beauty.
