As the tide comes and covers some of the rugged rocks on the coast of California, the landscape changes dramatically but once the tide recedes again, hundreds of jagged rocks seem to appear. When a storm passes through California, USA, the coast is an eerie place as the water crashes against the shore. Some waves splash to great heights as they pound against the protruding rocks creating a mist that hovers above the water's surface.Driving along the rugged California coast on Highway 1 is the best way to explore this area. Highway 1 winds itself along the coast and is the most scenic route and best way to travel through California.Along the way there are stops to view rugged canyons, gigantic redwood trees, various species of marine life, crashing waves, sheer rock cliffs and some of the most beautiful scenery throughout California. There are many beaches, coves and bays to stop at and enjoy a picnic or to stretch your legs.Summer time is the best time to vacation along the California coast but traffic will be a fair bit busier.
