Photo: Pueblo Bonito Doorways

A series of doorways provide access through the thick walls of Pueblo Bonito at the Chaco Culture National Historic Park in New Mexico.

More photo information

Constructed with a combination of rock, mortar and wood, these doorways at the Pueblo Bonito lead to the heart of the great house.

The thick wooden transoms reinforce the opening of the doorways and are probably the reason the doorways have not collapsed.

Pueblo Bonito has had the influence of many generations of builders over several centuries having been constructed between AD 830 and AD 1250.
