Aboard a tour with Glacier Helicopters in Westland on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand you can soar above the magnificent river of ice of Fox Glacier. This natural phenomenon travels for thirteen kilometers over Mt Cook and Mt Tasman and the best viewing is from a helicopter tour which gives you the full scenic view.As Fox Glacier makes its way down 8,000 feet through rock cliffs and snow covered peaks, one is stunned by its beauty. Fortunately for tourists to the area of Fox Glacier on the South Island, its access is not too difficult and gives one a chance to tour this natural wonder either by foot or by helicopter.Fox Glacier as well as Franz Josef Glacier move at a very rapid pace which is known to be about ten times the rate of any other valley glacier due to its shape and the climate around the South Island. It moves down the valley in a funnel form and it is always advancing and retreating. When booking a helicopter tour to see Fox Glacier, there is either a twenty minute trip or a forty minute one. The choice is up to you which one you prefer and one tour leaves from Fox Glacier and the other from Franz Josef Glacier.Fox Glacier seen during a Mount Cook Spectacular with landing flight (40 minutes) with Glacier Helicopters, Westland, West Coast, South Island, New Zealand.
