This elegant decorated Christmas Tree Scene was taken at a house in Pukeuri, in Otago on the East Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It contains many draped Christmas lights, a gorgeous traditionally decorated Christmas tree and Christmas wreaths, bordered by two comfortable wicker chairs to relax in and enjoy the Christmas scene.
It is not uncommon in many western cultures to find scenes such as this one celebrating the Christmas season and Christmas Day itself. For many people, Christmas is one of the best times of the year as it can be cold but cozy in your house (well in New Zealand Christmas is actually in the middle of summer). It is also a time to put up decorations such as this to show how much you are looking forward to the season; plus it's something new and different so that's always exciting.
Christmas trees can either be real or fake - some people prefer fake trees as they are a lot less maintenance, but just as many prefer a real Christmas tree as it not only adds to the spirit of a traditional Christmas but they also give off a wonderful pine smell. People can decorate their trees however they want. Some go for a more traditional and tidy look such as the tree here, while others like to decorate their trees with ornaments that their children or grandchildren have made, as that adds to the family spirit. It is believed that the act of decorating a tree at Christmas time began in the 16th century in Germany and it has never died out since.
