Shades of blue and red appear as though they've been splashed onto the face of the colourful Black Mountains at the Artists Palette in Death Valley National Park, California, USA.

Available for viewing on a loop road in Death Valley National Park, the Black Mountains are "painted" in a colourful array of pinks, reds, blue/green, and in some places even yellow and purple.

The colourful display is a result of metal oxidation on the volcanic and sedimentary soil on the slopes of the Black Mountains.

The Artists Palette is accessed by a one way, 9 mile long loop road with turnouts along the way to view the landscape and overlook Death Valley. The main stop along the way is of course the colourful Artists Palette.
