The stunning coastal scenery of Tautuku Bay is truly a sight to behold as you drive along the Catlins Coastal Heritage Trail and look out over the Tautuku Peninsula in the Catlins region of the South Island of New Zealand. This is a popular spot among tourists and locals alike as they come to this lookout at Florence Hill and just admire the view of the coastal scenery, feel the salt air on their faces and watch as the waves crash up against the beach.
Tautuku Bay is also part of the Tautuki Peninsula and that can be seen in the background of this photo as a rocky outcrop of land that juts out in the ocean. This is part of the Catlins region, which is known on the southeast coast of New Zealand as having beautiful views and a dense rainforest, but it is a sparsely populated area, so it is not as accessible as other locations in New Zealand. It is however very popular with surfers due to the big waves and it is also home to many endangered bird species as it is not as populated.
This point of the Catlins Coastal Heritage Trail is known as the Florence Hill Lookout, and is a perfect spot to not only admire the beautiful ocean, but also the Tautuku Peninsula and even the bay itself. The waves crashing up against the shore have been known to get bigger during stormy weather at this exposed location.
