A species of dog in need of rescue from extinction is the Canadian Eskimo Dogs which were first introduced to Canada by the Inuit around 1100-1200 AD.

With growing popularity of snowmobiles during the 1960's, the Canadian Eskimo dog species was nearing extinction by the 1970's and in need of rescue from their demise.

A project was initiated in order to rescue the species in the 1970's and by 1986 the first dogs were being registered with the Canadian Kennel Club.
