One of the four stages of the life cycle of a butterfly is the pupa or chrysalis stage. At the Victoria Butterfly Gardens in Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia you can view this chrysalis stage at a close range. Information is available so you can learn each stage of a butterfly's life and the process it takes to get to become a butterfly. The chrysalis of many different species of butterflies is created in an open space and they attach themselves to various surfaces by a velcro like material. You could watch this chrysalis for days on end and see absolutely no change but in reality there is a lot going on in the interior.Three separate changes occur inside the chrysalis, the head, thorax and abdomen develop and then the wings as the butterfly awaits the adult stage. When the butterfly is ready to emerge from the chrysalis you will start to see small sections appear until the butterfly has fully shed the chrysalis and is ready for flight.Victoria Butterfly Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia is a tourist attraction full of wonderful knowledge of the insect world that revolves around us.Butterfly Cocoons at Victoria Butterfly Gardens, Victoria, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
