The Piazza della Repubblica in the city of Florence, Italy is the historic site of the old Roman forum. The present Piazza, as seen from the Duomo Campanile, the Bell tower, was built in the late 19th century, and has many outdoor cafes around the perimeter. In the Middle Ages, between the ancient past and the present day, the Piazza della Repubblica was the home of the Old Market, Mercato Vecchio.
One of the cafes in the Piazza della Repubblica, the Giubbe Rosse, is a location where many of the famous artists and writers have congregated for many years. When visiting the piazza today, tourists will find many stalls where artists have set up their works of art as well as a variety of exhibitions.
