With a population of around 2500 people, St Anthony is the largest town on the northernmost tip of the Great Northern Peninsula of western Newfoundland.

Dr Wilfred Grenfell was St Anthony's most influential person. Hailing from London, after completing his medical training, Dr Grenfell was sent to Newfoundland Labrador to attend to the medical needs of the inhabitants. His journey, though officially was to bring much needed medical services, was also a religious mission.

Going far and beyond his original mandate, Dr Grenfell eventually set up schools, co-operatives and a string of hospitals. Though he originally set up the mission in Red Bay, Labrador, St Anthony became his base for services to the northern tip of Newfoundland and Southern Labrador.

Fishing was the mainstay industry of St Anthony for many year and during the 1930's and 1940's when a salt fish plant and cold storage were built there. ...More information below photos...

Icebergs and whale watching are very popular tours from St Anthony, taking visitors out into iceberg alley where icebergs cruise the currents during the winter months and whales frequent the waters.

Grenfell Historic Properties including the interpretative centre are a must see. Hiking is also a prominent attraction in St Anthony.
