Greece is by all means a nation of great history and long-standing mythology. Today, tourists the world over know Greece for the blue-domed buildings of the Cyclades Islands of the Aegean Sea. Thousands of honeymooners and cruise ship passengers come ashore each year to wander with the donkeys through the narrow streets and twisted stairways of Santorini.

... City States, Alexander the Great, and the Roman Empire all came afterwards, and archeological treasures of these mythical times are part of the landscape of the southern Greek islands. All over Greece, archeologists are still uncovering clues as to how our ancient ancestors lived. The Archeological Museum of Fira houses some relics of the earliest people to call Santorini home.


The true charm of Greece today is not in the modern hotels and tourist attractions of cruise ports, but in the people themselves. The locals who sell their homemade wine in the street, the old men in each cafe or tavern, and the proud fishermen who ply the Aegean for colourful fish that - if you chose the right restaurant - just may end up on your plate that night.
