This area off the beaten track named "The Catlins" (some call it "the Catlins coast") is a beautiful nature area which received its name for the river Catlins.
The Catlins is located on the southeastern part of the South Island of New Zealand, almost in the middle between the cities of Dunedin and Invercargill.
It is probably the least visited area by tourists which makes it special interesting for independent travelers. The biggest highlights in the area are amazing waterfalls, a very scenic coastline, the ancient fossil forest at Curio Bay, Nugget Point Lighthouse and great wildlife including yellow eyed penguins, seals and hookers sea lions.
If you are a nature lover you need to spend some days in The Catlins. I hope my photos will make you want to go there.
