Wandering through Graben Square in downtown Vienna, Austria, there is a statue called the Pestsaule which represents all the people who died from the Plague. The bubonic plague hit Vienna, Austria in 1679 taking the lives of between 75,000 and 150,000.
After the horrible disease finally passed, which was believed to have started from fleas from the massive amount of rats and rodents which crowded the streets of Vienna, a statue was in the workings. Nine years was spent creating this statue and in 1693, the Pestsaule was erected in Graben Square in Vienna, Austria.
