The Peace Tower is joined to the Centre Block in the Canadian Parliament buildings in Ottawa and stands 92.2 metres tall. It was built to commemorate the end of WWI and it contains the Book of Remembrance, which lists all the soldiers who died fighting for Canada in wars such as both World Wars, the Korean War, the Boer War, and the Nile Expedition. Every year a Remembrance Day ceremony is held here on November 11th at 11am.
The top of the tower offers some of the best views of the city as it allows for an unobstructed view for miles around. The flag that is flown on top of the tower has been lowered in the past to commemorate sad events around the world, most notably the September 11 2001 attacks.
