The 130 year old library at the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Ontario is a masterful piece of work done in High Victorian Gothic Revival architecture. An extensive collection of books line the walls and shelves of the old library where you can spend hours exploring all the magnificent books. What can take just as long is wandering around and looking at the beautiful architecture of the old library.
The floor is made up of creative patterns of cherry, oak and walnut and stunning carvings of flowers, masks and legendary but mysterious creatures are etched in the white pine that panels the walls. The domed roof is home to a statue made of marble of Queen Victoria when she was much younger.
Refurbishing and upgrading have taken place in the old library in the last few years and when you tour the Parliament Buildings, the library is part of the scheduled excursion. A huge fire in 1916 destroyed most of the Central Block of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Ontario except for the old library as it was protected by iron doors.
