Orca Sunset Storm Threatening Clouds Vancouver Island: Scientific Name:
Orcinus orca
A Northern Resident male Killer Whale shows off his markings on his dorsal fin and around his saddle patch as he prepares to dive in the waters off Northern Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Each Orca is easily identified by these markings, either by the nicks or shape of its dorsal fin or by its saddle patch.
The sunset leaves behind its brilliant rays as dark clouds move in over the region bringing with them a threatening storm warning. The waters and winds off Northern Vancouver Island can change within minutes and all boat captains must be prepared, unlike an Orca, as they survive the toughest storms. What or where an Orca or pods of Orca go when the ocean brings on a good storm is anyone's guess.
