Sir James Pliny Whitney led a busy life, holding many important jobs in his career as a politician, a lawyer, a Conservative Member and Premier of Ontario. He was born in 1843 in Ontario, where he held all of the above positions and his life also ended in Ontario at the age of 71.
A statue honoring his memory was erected outside the Ontario Legislative Building in the city of Toronto, Ontario in Canada. Some of his battles included the hydroelectric power system, workmen's compensation legislation, new bureaucratic forms and a tough liquor legislation.
