In the southeast near Juneau, Alaska waterfalls are plentiful due to the rainy conditions and mountainous territory. The waterfalls at Nugget Creek are situated near Mendenhall Glacier and flow down a valley that was created by Nugget Glacier.
A hundred years ago the local miners built a wooden dam at the top which makes the waterfalls at Nugget Creek even more impressive. The falls are a few hundred feet high and flow steadily throughout the year.
A tourist sits at the bottom of the waterfalls watching the rushing water pummel into Mendenhall Lake as she is sprayed from the mist of the icy cold water. Visitors can get to the falls by walking along the beach at Mendenhall Lake or across Mendenhall Lake where the waterfalls are visible from the West Glacier Trail.
