Many tourists stop by this unique attraction when visiting Queenston, Ontario, especially during the Spring when the flowers are blossoming in an array of hues. Each floral section on the face of the clock displays different colours of flowers with pink tulips adorning the walkways.
In the flower beds, which make up the face of the clock, there are approximately 16,000 carpet bedding plants which are very well taken care of by the horticulture staff who work for Niagara Parks. This floral arrangement is redone two times a year with Violas in the Spring and four different types of Alternanthera and Santolina Sage during the Summer and Fall seasons.
Around the floral clock is a water garden which is ten feet wide and works its...
... way around the clock making this waterway the ideal place to throw coins for wish making. At the back of the clock, stands a tower where the beautiful sounds of Westminster chimes go off every quarter hour. The large white letters embedded into the garden clearly spell out Niagara Parks.
Stainless steel tubing makes up the hands on the clock with the minute hand being 17.5 feet long, the second hand reaching lengths of 21 feet and the hour hand being only 14.5 feet in length. If trying to lift the entire clock mechanism, the total weight would be 1,250 pounds.
While visiting Queenston, Ontario, be sure to stop by the Niagara Parks Floral Clock and see its beauty while watching and listening to the chimes ring as the minutes tick by. A beautiful place to enjoy an afternoon while being surrounded by colorful flowers and the scents they emit. The Niagara Parks Floral Clock is probably the second most photographed feature in Ontario next to Niagara Falls.
