The village of Moustiers Ste Marie in the Alpes de Haute region of Provence in France is one of the most beautiful and uniquely located in France. Moustiers Ste Marie, or just Moustiers as it is usually called, is situated about a hundred meters up a rocky limestone cliff in a semi circular spot.
A spring flows from this cliff, forming a cascading stream running through the centre of the Moustiers Ste Marie village in France. At either end of the cliff there are twin peaks 1800 meters high and suspended between these peaks is a 225 meter chain. From this chain hangs a star, and legend has it that during the Crusades a knight of Blacas was imprisoned by the Saracens and when he returned he hung a star over the village of Moustiers Ste Marie in Provence, France.
Interesting paths wander through Moustiers and visitors will be surprised to find little squares hiding behind the houses, and narrow alleys dotted with stone fountains will lead to the village centre.
