The Mission House is one of few that remain intact at the Kerikeri Basin on the North Island of New Zealand with hopes that future damage does not happen. This site is from the early days of the Maori-Pakeha people and is of extreme importance to the history of New Zealand.
Built in 1822, the Kerikeri Mission House as well as the Stone Store and the Kerikeri Mission Station are in a devastating position and could easily be washed away by floods or traffic ruination. Because of the restrictions to the flow of the Kerikeri River due to the bridge construction, once there is a heavy rainfall the river reaches damaging heights.
During 1981, the Mission House was flooded for the very first time and was almost taken down the raging...
... river. Safety issues are also a concern for pedestrians that tour Kerikeri, New Zealand to view these remaining buildings.
There is hope that the bridge will be torn down and a traffic bypass put in so that the water will not wash away this historic Mission House and all its belongings.
