Waterton Lakes National Park in Southern Alberta, Canada is a spectacular countryside of amazing scenery and beautiful lakes. Along Highway 5, there are a few pullouts where you can stop and enjoy the scenery and this particular one overlooks Middle Waterton Lake and the stunning mountain range.
The mountain range in the background that towers over Middle Waterton Lake, is made up of rocks that are at least 1.6 million years old. The slopes of the mountains seem to appear right out of the prairie landscape as no foothills exist. Snow covered peaks just makes the scenery of Alberta a far prettier place than it already is.
The Waterton Lakes are divided into four smaller lakes with one being the Upper Waterton Lake that is the coldest and deepest. The Middle Waterton Lake as seen in this picture is fairly shallow and deep water fish do not favour this lake. Lower Waterton Lake is yet still shallower with the temperature of the water being much warmer which enables vegetation to thrive and the fourth looks more like a swamp as it is the shallowest.
Each pullout along the Alberta highway has beautiful scenery but be sure to stop at this one. The lush green grass surrounds Middle Waterton Lake and you get an excellent view of the mountains.
