The Reifenstein Castle is one of the best originally preserved medieval castles in Italy, Europe and gives you the best look at what medieval castle life was like. The construction of the Reifenstein Castle first began in 1170 and sits across the valley from another fascinating castle known as the Sprechenstein Castle.
The history behind the medieval Reifenstein Castle in South Tyrol, Italy is very intriguing and you will learn how the reservoir collected water, how one too many drinks turned the lords into fumble fingers when trying to get the keys into the keyholes and how the design of the luxurious green room made medieval living look fairly comfortable. The dungeon is an eerie place where prisoners were left for eight days with no food and very little water when their taxes were not paid. There is also a room where the army for the Reinenstein Castle slept in boxes lined with hay. Imagine forty or so knights all twisting, turning and snoring at the same time.
The lady of the castle still resides here and will take groups on tour on a daily basis to see what the medieval castle entails.
