A waterfall gently flows over the rock ledge at the Wairakei Terraces on the North Island of New Zealand, where two Maori people rest and drink from a conch shell. The warrior sips from the shell as the maiden watches and will then refill it if necessary for the warrior to drink. Once he has had enough water, the maiden will then get what she needs to quench her thirst.
A waterfall allows clean water to flow over the rocks, giving the Maori people a place to get their drinking water from. In the early years, when running tap water was non-existent, this is how many people, not just the Maori people, would get enough water to survive.
