Driving along Highway 12 between Modena to La Spezia there are many historic hillside perch villages. One such village is the village of Lucchio which clings precariously to the side of a steep hill in the region of Tuscany in Italy.
This village blends so well with the surrounding landscape, that while travelling along the road which wends its way round the base of the hill, it is almost impossible to see it.
Lucchio is a quaint village which is well worth a visit. To begin, one has to drive the steep tree and flower lined road to the carpark at the entance to the village of Lucchio. From the carpark, the only transport is by foot and once inside you can see why - there simply is no room for vehicles along the narrow...
... streets/paths which wind past the tightly clustered houses. From the fortress ruins which sit high above Lucchio there are stunning views of the valley and mountains which surround the village.
