At Lock 3 of the Welland Canal System in St Catharines, Ontario, a viewing platform is provided for visitors to the museum. From this platform they can watch a ship make its way into the lock in order to get to Lake Erie or Lake Ontario.
As the ship nears, it is amazing to watch such a large vessel maneuver itself into an eighty foot wide space. The ship will travel at a speed similar to that of walking until it is locked in allowing the water to rise or lower in order for the ship to continue to its destination.
