Information about the "Living Quarters Rewas Village New Zealand" photograph:

A reproduction of a house at Rewa's Village in a pre-European Maori kainga or village which was the living quarters to the Chef and his family in Kerikeri, New Zealand. The whole village has been duplicated and it is a great tourist attraction where one can learn of the lifestyles of the early Maori people.

Rewa's Village was constructed in 1969 and each exhibit is uniquely designed so that it resembles the buildings that were once used by the Maori tribes. The living quarters of the Chef's family is one of the many places to see, along with others like the cooking shelter, weapons store, storage areas and a fishing store.

The Rewa's Village was named after a Maori man who was the second most powerful man in the Maori tribe, ranking just below the chief, Hongi Hika. On your visit to Rewa's Village in Kerikeri, there is an audio visual presentation during this time period when Hongi Hika was the chief of the tribe.

Compared to the way life is nowadays and the living quarters that people reside in, it is amazing to see how simple life was in this village. The tours through Rewas Village in Kerikeri, New Zealand are all self-guided and it is opened daily from 10 to 5 for visitors to explore.
