Les Arenes located in the Old Town of Arles in Provence, France, is one of the best preserved Roman arenas for bullfights in France. Today, these bullfights are still held every year, beginning at the Easter Festival.
Built around the first century, Les Arenes in Arles could hold 30,000 people and even these days can still accommodate 20,000 spectators for the bullfights. There are two types of bullfights held in Les Arenes in Arles, Provence in France. The bulls are not killed in the Provencal bullfights, however, the Spanish type is the traditional bullfight where the bull is fought to the death.
During the Middle Ages four towers were constructed around Les Arenes in Arles, Provence. It was used as a fortification with houses and two chapels taking the place of some of the arches and the original architecture.
