There are over 150 species of the Lantana plant and a majority of them are native to the tropical regions but this one flourishes at the Victoria Butterfly Gardens on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The array of colors of this particular species of the Lantana flower form in clusters at the ends of the plant branches.
The Lantana plant flowers throughout much of the year in the tropical gardens at Victoria Butterfly Gardens and the cluster heads can grow to be about 2.5 centimeters in diameter. Lantana plants that grow in the wild tend to have hairy stems that can also be prickly and they can leave a strong odor if rubbed.
In some parts of the world the Lantana plant is used as a source for certain medicinal purposes. Some people have used the Lantana for snake bites or stomach ailments as well as being used in the bath for other medical purposes. In other places like Texas, the Lantana grows wild and it is easily spread as birds like the fruit that this plant produces.
There are a variety of plants and flowers in the tropical gardens of Victoria Butterfly Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia but the Lantana is especially pretty when in full bloom. Other interesting sights to see while visiting the Butterfly Gardens are the many species of butterflies that fly freely throughout the building, birds, fish and the learning centre.
