Lake Mangamahoe was first created in 1931 primarily for New Plymouth's water source and after building a dam across the valley and new plants were erected, this beautiful area was established. The added attraction of Mt. Egmont, the second highest volcanic mountain in New Zealand, is a bonus to the area making Lake Mangamahoe well worth a visit.
