Information about the "Lady Knox New Zealand Geyser" photograph:

At a New Zealand prison that was built in 1901 the prisoners were required to clear light bush and scrub from the area and plant trees. This is where the Lady Knox Geyser was first discovered and how the bubbling hot water spring could be made to erupt by adding soap.

It was a total accident on how the Lady Knox Geyser was first discovered and how it began its eruption process. The prisoners used to wash their clothes using the hot water and adding soap which was a totally luxury at the time and in a few minutes time the pool erupted and their clothes were sent skyward. Rocks were set around the base of the spring to enhance the eruption and eventually over the years silica from each eruption continued to build and now gives it a white cone shaped appearance.

Lady Knox Geyser in New Zealand has now become a famous tourist attraction and is prompted to erupt every morning at 10:15. The geyser can reach heights of up to 20 meters and can erupt for up to one hour but that can vary depending on the weather conditions.

The Lady Knox Geyser is a very intriguing sight to see while visiting Waiotapu Scenic Reserve in Rotorua on the North Island of New Zealand so be sure to check it out.
