The city of La Spezia in Liguria, Italy is located on the eastern end of the Italian Riviera on the flat landscape between the hillsides and the sea. La Spezia was known as a small maritime and fishing town which became very important in the trading and naval establishment up until the 10th century AD.
Around the 800's the city of La Spezia took on a new approach when a military shipyard and Mercantile Port took away from the fishing village and made the city more modernized. Many historical battleships were built in the La Spezia naval yard from 1878 to 1908 along with a number of cruisers and submarines. This production of battleships was ceased after the war but the continuation of the naval base was kept alive.
La Spezia...
... was later rebuilt and naval ships were again being built for the navy in Italy and six dry docks were erected. When you visit La Spezia today, the naval base still remains strong with a school that is opened for people who wish to attend that are interested in the navy.
