Kaka birds flock to their feeding post at the Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre as visitors gather around to watch this native bird to New Zealand. At 3:00 p.m. every day you will see the wild kaka birds come flying through the trees and head straight to this bird feeding area for meal times.
The Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre in Wairarapa, New Zealand is definitely not a zoo but rather a bird sanctuary for rare species of birds. The Kaka birds along with other rare New Zealand birds are cared, tended to and bred here which is the main purpose at the Wildlife Centre.
Once the number of Kaka birds and other species are deemed to be plentiful in numbers, they are then released back into the wild to live in their natural environment. All of these birds at the Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre are on the endangered species list and if we do not help, then they may become extinct.
To get to the Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre in Wairarapa, New Zealand you must follow State Highway 2 between Masterton and Eketahuna where it is located just off the highway. This educational centre is open daily except for Christmas Day where you can discover the wonders of the native New Zealand birds such as the Kaka, Kiwi, Kokako, Stichbird, Takahe and Kakariki.
