As the tide recedes at sunset along the rugged coastline of the Kaikoura Peninsula, rock formations begin to appear which seem to endlessly span across the horizon into the sunset colors. The light emits a unique glow as it sparkles off the rocks and across the surface of the water making it easy to watch the waves crash when they come face to face with the rocks.

The rocks span the ocean for five kilometers at low tide, so one never knows how far out these seals will be seen.
