The lights of the cafes and restaurants come to life as dusk falls on the Piazza Anfiteatro, an old Roman Amphitheatre in the city of Lucca, which is the capital city of the Lucca Province in the Tuscany Region of Italy.

During the Middle Ages, a number of houses were built on the remains of the Roman ruins, and it wasn't until the 19th century that famous architect Lorenzo Nottolini rearranged the space inside the amphitheatre to bring out the ancient ruins better. Original parts of the Roman ruins can now be seen along the walls of the Piazza.
