The Canadian Eskimo Dog, a puppy of the breed seen here in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada is one of the oldest and rarest arctic indigenous domestic canines. These dogs were used in dog sled teams and they have become known for their strength which enables them to pull heavy sleds with people and supplies on them. Now Alaskan Huskies are generally used, as they are faster dogs.
These dogs look like they have been bred for hard work and are built to pull sleds and work hard, but not so much to run very fast. Their coats are very thick...
... and while the outside of their fur is soft and silky to the touch, underneath can be found hard course hairs, which help keep the dogs so warm in the cold climate.
These dogs are still very popular, despite not being used as working dogs as much, but they are loved for their kind temperament, their loyal nature and their ability to survive pretty much any situation they are put in. They enjoy sleeping outdoors, mostly because they have the fur to keep them warm to do so. They are very good for exploring and also looking for food, as both are part of their natural instinct.
