The Huka Falls are the largest on the Waikato River and the river is one of the longest on the North Island of NZ. Every second there is up to 250,000 cubic meters of water that gushes through the gorge creating the beautiful turquoise waters of Huka Falls and the Waikato River in NZ.
The name Huka comes from the Maori language and means "foam" which is appropriate as the rushing water over the falls certainly resembles foam. As the Waikato River on the North Island of NZ reaches the Huka Falls it abruptly narrows to 15 meters across a hard volcanic ledge. This causes a huge volume of water to collide and create a spectacular natural phenomenon known as the Huka Falls.
The picture perfect place is on a pedestrian bridge that...
... crosses over the Waikato River where the Huka Falls bursts through over the eleven meter fall into the fast moving river.
People test their kayaking skills down this mighty river on the North Island of NZ which requires some expertise maneuvers as they go over the Huka Falls. This is an incredibly peaceful place to visit while in NZ and it is a great experience for the whole family.
