The Huesca village of Anso is nestled in the pretty Valle de Anso in Aragon, Spain. Anso is a tiny village with just over 500 inhabitants, but it is a friendly place. The Anso Valley or Valle de Anso is one of the most picturesque valleys in the Pyrenees mountains, there are forests of pine and oak trees and is a bird watchers' paradise. The valley is also home to the few remaining Pyrenean bears, and if they are lucky, travelers may catch a glimpse of one.
The village of Anso in the province of Huesca, Aragon in Spain, has cobblestone streets and the houses are stone, giving the village a solid feeling of age and hospitality. The parochial church of San Pedro de Anso seems to protect the village gathered around it.
The Museo de la Naturaleza has found a home in an old cinema and is worth a visit to see the exhibits of the Valle de Anso and neighbouring valleys, along with a model of the Aragon Pyrenees mountains constructed to scale. There are also a display of the local animals including the aforementioned bears which are considered an endangered species.
The village of Anso in Huesca is not far from the French border or the Roncal Valley which is in Basque territory. Visitors fortunate enough to visit Anso on the last August in Sunday would be able to witness the people of Anso perform the dances of their ancestors dressed in medieval garments. A memorable experience indeed.
