Information about the "Historique Acadien New Brunswick" photograph:

Take a step back in time and explore the ways of life between 1770 and 1939 at the Village Historique Acadien in Caraquet, New Brunswick in Canada. This incredible historical site has over forty complexes to visit where people dress in ancestral customs.

Each person tells a unique story relating to the daily lives of the Acadien people. In this building you will find meat that they hunted or caught to feed themselves and many ways that they found to survive.

The Acadien people were the first people to form a white community in North America and all they wanted was to live in peace with the native people, war was not part of their livelihood. The people originated from the western provinces of France, the Basque county and several other locations and set up residence in the area we now know as the Bay of Fundy.

They were soon ordered for deportation and remained out of sight for many years until one by one the Acadien people reappeared and rebuilt a new country in old Acadie. Today you will find Acadien people in different parts of the world but New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island is where they have reclaimed their identity.

One third of New Brunswick's population are Acadiens and they speak the only official bilingual language in Canada. When visiting the Village Historique Acadien in New Brunswick, give yourself about three hours to take in all the interesting buildings and sights in this village. A place where history is of great importance and heritage that we all need to learn about.
