During the reconquest of Spain by the Moors at the beginning of the 13th century, the Morella Castle in Valencia, Spain, was built by the Arabs. Through the ages, the castle was under attack during various wars, and occupied by many different armies.
The historic Morella Castle was situated in excellent position on top of the hill (1,072 meters above sea level), with a view across the valley to watch for the attacking foe. The Iberians, Romans and Christians have all left their mark on this ancient castle, and there are still signs of each era to be seen today.
Visitors to the castle, must climb the long, shallow stairs which is the most direct route to the top to view this historic landmark.
