The Hararu Falls near the town of Paihia on the North Island of New Zealand flow over the rocky cliffs amongst the lush greenery that surrounds the region. After a vast amount of rain or tropical storm the water crashes over these rock ledges in large amounts and it can be a very impressive sight.
On days such as this, you can stand on the rocky ledges on either side of the falls where you can get an excellent view of the rushing water of Hararu Falls. When the falls are in full force, the banks and rock ledges are completely covered with large amounts of water and standing on the rock ledges is impossible.

There are many great hiking trails throughout this region and it is a good half day adventure if starting at Paihia to Hararu Falls. The main attractions are in the town of Paihia where picturesque beaches hug the coastline and many outdoor sports such as swimming, snorkeling, surfing and kayaking are available.
Hararu Falls is worth seeing while visiting the North Island of New Zealand but the town of Paihia is where you will find accommodations and all the excitement.
