Two cute little Golden Mantled Ground Squirrels peek over the top of the rock at each other in Omega Park in Montebello, Quebec. These little creatures represent that of a chipmunk with their coloring and stripes down their back but differ in that it does not have stripes on its face.
Just like chipmunks, the Golden Mantled Ground Squirrels are very fast when on the move as they roam about the wilderness of Parc Omega in Quebec. Ranging between nine and twelve inches in length, the squirrels need to be quick as their enemies includes those of hawks, jays, weasels, foxes, bobcats and coyotes.
As in this picture, the Golden Mantled Ground Squirrels are always very alert as they scoot around the park in search of food. They store their food in their cheek pouches and will eat plenty to prepare for their long winter sleep and will also stock up their nests so that they have some source of food when they arise.
While touring through Parc Omega in Quebec, Canada be sure to keep your eyes open for any scurrying Golden Mantled Ground Squirrels. Your camera must always be ready as these animals are here one second and gone the next unless you happen to come across a rare picture like this.
