Houses painted in colorful hues line Golden Lane of the Prague Castle in Czech Republic that were originally built in 1597 for marksmen and their families. This construction was ordered by Emperor Rudolph II so that the men that resided in these homes could protect him from the many enemies that he had acquired.
In the later years, these cottages were used for goldsmiths and alchemists and this is how the name of Golden Lane came about. After some reconstruction, the cottages are now used as gift shops and exhibits of the medieval times and thousands of tourists come here yearly to browse or buy souvenirs from their trip to Prague in the Czech Republic.
