The GM Building in Detroit, is now referred to as Cadillac Place, and there is also a GM Building located in New York. Cadillac Place is a high rise office building located in downtown Detroit and was originally the main base of the General Motors Company from 1923 until 1996. It was then that GM moved to the Renaissance Center, also located in Detroit, and sold the old building to the city of Michigan. It was then that the building was renamed Cadillac Place as Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac was the founder of Detroit.
