Gannet Beach Adventures Hawkes Bay: Scientific Name:
Morus serrator
When visiting the Hawkes Bay region of the North Island of New Zealand, there's more than just vineyards and wine to see and try. The Cape Kidnappers Gannet Colony is an important breeding ground for the Australasian Gannets.
One of the best ways to get out to the Gannets on Cape Kidnappers is with Gannet Beach Adventures from the town of Clifton. Departures are dependent on the tides, so the times vary on a daily basis.
Passengers are loaded up on an open sided trailer which is pulled along by an old red tractor. The tractor then hauls the trailer over the beach which also varies on a daily basis with the occasional land slide. This is definitely a fun way to see the gannets and explore the coast with a number of stops a long the way for photo opportunities and sometimes even to unbog the tractor!
